RESTAURANT HUBERT | Gorgeous Room, Food and Wine
THE UPSIDE: the room has been beautifully designed to take you back to another era and the food and wines are spot on. Very elegant. An excellent addition to the dining scene in Sydney.
THE DOWNSIDE: couples can't book (they only take reservations for groups of 6 or more). We were there at around 6pm on a Thursday and almost didn't get in - it fills up quickly and the hostess initially overlooked the last available seating for 2 people. That was perhaps the only hiccup.
We dropped in spontaneously, having heard much about Hubert and keen to see what all the fuss is about, and we were really impressed overall at the quality of everything. Winding your way down a labyrinth-like staircase is an enticing entry and, once you arrive, you're met with a room full of elegance and charm. Especially thankful we could get in since it is hugely popular.
Our dining waitress was very helpful and knowledgeable, the food is delicious, a touch indulgent and completely satisfying - and wine matching suggestions were really great. We loved the steak tartare and the gruyere dish - and the kimchi is a must! Interesting and yummy twists on some classic dishes. All very French, European and old-world.
I definitely recommend checking out this great addition to the Sydney dining scene. There is a bar where you can wait for a table if you don't nab one right away. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.
